Throat singing from Canada

The award-winning indigenous artist Tanya Tagaq will this year take throat singing at Riddu Riđđu to new heights.

An intense throat singing from the west will be heard between the mountains in Manndalen during this year's festival. Throat singing is not only in the Siberian mountains, Inuitter is also known for their distinctive song technique. Tagaq is one of the foremost female indigenous artists in Canada. Internationally, she is known for here collaboration with Björk, who also is a major source of inspiration for Tagaqs music.

Love and respect
Tagaqs music has roots in the traditional Inuitt throat songs that she has great love and respect for, but she mixes it with contemporary with a classic profile. The result is extraordinary and full of power. Tagaq visited Riddu Riđđu as an guest artist for Origami Arctic (2004).

In 2009 was Tagaq nominated for Juno awards for "Aboriginal album of the year". Buffy Sainte-Marie won the price, but it was a great honor for young Tagaq to be nominated in this category.
