Sofia Jannok is coming to Riddu Riddu!

Finally the swedish-sami singing star is coming to Kåfjord. Jannok have been touring in whole Sápmi, through Europe, the other side of the Atlantic and Shanghai. Now she's coming to Europe's most important indigenous scene, and Riddu Riddu's own 20th anniversary, July 21-24 2011.

Sofia Jannok has for a long time been one of the most exciting young, sami artist with a bit international potential. She has received widespread recognition in her homeland Sweden. With a big passion, playfulness and courage she is combining urban tones with the joik in a fantastic way. Her music has references to traditional joik, pop and jazz, something that have been giving Jannok a large international audience.

 
Sofia Jannok's second solo record, áššogáttis / by the embers, was released in 2009 and received a good reputation in amongst others the british The Guardian. Her first solo record, Čeaskat / White, did also get good critics when it was released in 2007. Jannok have been touring the whole Sápmi, but never visited Kåfjord and Riddu Riddu before – it was about time!
 
Jannok has received several prestige-filled awards and scholarships in Sweden.On her new record she is working with Peter Tikkanen, among others. In 2009 she visited Tromsø and the Barentz Jazz with Nordbotten Big Band.
