«Open spaces through me»
Thursday July 21st
This year's opening concert is a commission work composed by the international recognized cellist Svante Henryson from Västerbotten in Sweden.
“This is unreal”, the culture school principal in Kåfjord exclaimed when it was clear that they would be this years LiNN-hosts. LiNN is short for Regional musicians in Northern-Norway (Landsdelsmusikerne I Nord-Norge).
The local music scene was, and are, in awe of hosting the international star Svante Henryson. Svante Henryson has been standing side by side with some of the absolute best musicians in the world. Among them Elvis Costello and Stevie Wonder. This year he is standing side by side with the sami culture.
Big inspiration
As this years LiNN-artist, Svante Henryson has been spending a lot of the year in Lásságámmi and Manndalen. LiNN Artist is a project that gives norwegian or international artist the possibility to develop themselves by being attached to a local society in the North for a whole year. Inspired by the costal-sami culture he has had around him, Svante Henryson has made music that is based upon the texts to the sami artist Nils-Aslak Valkeapää. With his side Svante has a team of north Norwegian artists like Inga Juuso, Hogne and Herman Runbderg and the generations choir with members from 5 to 82 years.
Bloodline
This isn't Svante's first meeting with the sami culture. He grew up in Västerbotten and has sami blood in his veins. Manndalen has in that way been like a home for him, where a part of the jigsaw Svante Henryson has fallen into place.

Svante is looking forward to meet the musical diversity in the municipality, and not least to cooperate wit Riddu Riddu. This is a performance you don't want to miss!
