Letter from the Governor General of Canada
Read the letter from the Governor General of Canada to the Riddu Riddu festival april 2009
Canada and Norway share close relations, thanks in part of the success of the Riddu Riddu International Indigenous People`s festival. I am pleased to celebrate the organizers dedication as I conduct a State visit to Norway
With Strong commitment to education and to the arts of Indigenous peoples, you have made your presence known to so many as centerpiece for northern communities. Throughout your history, you have educated your patrons by showcasing artists and cultural development from around the world. Canada is proud to have been involved in these festivals, as we share your county`s rich Indigenouse heritage. Thanks to your effort, Canadians and Norwegians have a greater understanding of one other. On this special occasion, I am pleased to acknowledge your unique position as a partner of Canadian interest and values within Norway.
I wish you the very best!
Michaëlle Jean April 2009
