Indigenous right - The struggle for survival

The presentation gives an overview over the world’s largest freshwater ecosystem, it history
and the situation of its indigenous peoples. It focuses on the current threats to indigenous
livelihoods and culture posed by extractive industries and infrastructure development. The
indigenous struggles to counter this are finally discussed.

About Valkhof:
Søren Hvalkof is a Danish anthropologist, graduated from the University of Copenhagen in
1984. He works in research, consultancies and advocacy related projects. He has more than 35
years of experience working in the Amazon with indigenous peoples, addressing the problems
they face. He is presently employed as a senior advisor to the Rainforest Foundation Norway.
