Urfolksmusikk fra Taiwan
CD: Inka Mbing - Gaga

Musikkbladet fRoots skriver:
Inka Mbing is from Taiwan’s Tayal ethnic group, one of the major aboriginal tribes. Originally a rock singer, in recent years she’s collected ancient folk songs from Tayal elders, in an effort, she says, to preserve them. Preserve them, she might be doing, but in creating her own music, Inka Mbing is an outstanding innovator. In her hands, these ancient songs have been rearranged in a variety of ways. She sings her own lyrics over traditional melodies, puts traditional lyrics to original melodies and sings songs hitherto the exclusive domain of men. Beautifully recorded, a varied group of musicians provides a palette of sounds to accompany her voice, with the vocals and percussion of Tayal and other Taiwanese aboriginal tribes, cello, the Indian percussion of Ramesh Shotham and acoustic guitar of Japanese musician Ken Ohtake, best known for his collaborations with Takashi Hirayasu from Okinawa. From sparse, haunting melodies to improvised and upbeat joyous songs, this is an album of pure delight, beautifully packaged, long digipack style, with English notes and transliterations of the lyrics.
