Are you our young artist of the year?

In collaboration with SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge´s Cultural Foundation, Riddu Riđđu Festival grants a scholarship 25 000 NOK to a young Sámi artist of the year during Riddu Riđđu Festival 12th to 16th of July.

Objectives:   

Riddu Riđđu Festivála wants to encourage artistic development amongst young Sámi artists and create a platform for them to reach national and international audience. In collaboration with SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge´s Cultural foundation Riddu Riđđu Festivála wishes to contributes to a sustainable development of Sámi contributions in the cultural industry.  

Candidates:

The acknowledgement/scholarship is given to young Sámis who has chosen to practice and pursue an artistic career. The candidate must emphasize Sámi cultural connection in their work.   

About the scholarship:

As a receiver of SNN Cultural foundation and Riddu Riđđu Festivála´s acknowledgement the young artist will be:

  • Awarded scholarship of 25 000 NOK.
  • Included with their own program/event during Riddu Riđđu Festivála.
  • Marketed as «Riddu Riđđu’s young artist of the year» throughout the year.
  • Given the opportunity to attend/perform at festivals/events, nationally and internationally.
  • Given a one month artist recidency at «Lásságámmi”
  • Ending the year with as «Young artist of the year» with an artistic program at “Festspillene I Nord-Norge”.

Application conditions:

  • The candidate must be between 18 - 25 years old.
  • The candidate must have affiliation to Sápmi (the Sámi areas in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia)
  • The acknowledgement requires a presentation of the artist’s work during Riddu Riđđu Festivála.
  • The candidate must include a plan for how the scholarship will be spent.
  • Within a year of receiving the scholarship the candidate must send a written report on the usage of the scholarship.
  • A jury, consisting of the program committee of during Riddu Riđđu Festivála, chooses the candidate based on the applications, and gives the prize and scholarship on behalf of SNN Cultural Foundation and Riddu Riđđu Festivála.
