Buljo brings Bidus to the table
Friday July 22.
It's not meat soup all that is bidus, if you add some electricity you will soon end up with musical gold.
It might not be that innovative of a sami festival to serve bidus, but when it is THE Georg Buljo who compose Electric Bidus it is undoubtedly worth a taste.
Buljo, the most important sami musician you probably haven't heard about – is a composer, musician and producer and has worked with people like Mari Boine and Niko Valkeapää. This year he has also debuted as a solo artist with the record Saxpahaw, but to Riddu Riddu he is bringing all new composed materials.
International combination
Not only has Buljo composed the piece, he is also gonna be the lead singer, play the guitar and the percussion. With him on stage in the Nisga'a house he has got something of the best Sápmi can offer of joikers, with Niko Valkeapää and Sara Marielle Guap. As of that is not enough, the canadian throat singer Sylvia Cloutier involved, and norwegian musicians like Per Willy Aaseryd, Gjermund Silset, Kenneth Ekornes and Nils Økland gonna make sure that the audience is meeting a unique and fresh composition of sami, canadian and norwegian traditional music.
Pre-written vocals
Electric Bidus is ninety minutes long and consists of thre sequences who all are the same, but different. Desired is to create a meeting point where you can pass the pre-written vocal and storytelling traditions, and near indigenous peoples have with nature and the way of viewing the world. The music is gonna make space for both myths, legends, world music and jazz – and of course joik nad throat song, that, even if they are much different, suits well togheter.
It's not good to se how this is gonna end, but one thing is certain: this will be a musical travel you definitively should join!
