About Riddu Riđđu

The Riddu Riđđu festival was started by the sami associations in Kåfjord in 1991, as a sea-sami culture festival. The festival has become one of the largest sami festivals and primary yearly festival for international indigenous peoples. The festival programme encompasses music, stage art, literature, children program, Northern People program, youth camp, film program, courses (work shops), seminars, art exhibition, market (bazaar), indigenous houses and much more. This year's (music) program includes among others: Buffy Sainte-Marie, Mari Boine, Adjagas, Namgar, Tagaq, Yerboli, Johan Sara jr., Alit Boazu, Gendos

The festival has permanent support from the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, the sami parliament, Troms county and Kåfjord municipality.

Riddu Riđđu Centre for Northern Peoples

The centre was established in 2008 and has as its objective to promote culture and art all year round, with focus on the cultures of northern peoples.
